I had to have hubby take me to the VA today so I could go to the walk in clinic. The right half of my face is swollen, I look like I was beaten but without bruising. It started yesterday morning with a sinus headache that made my teeth hurt. I took a couple of sinus tabs and they helped. By after noon I had some swelling by my nose. It has happened before, usually around the season change. The only difference is that I am not stuffed up or blowing crap out. I can feel the shit draining down the back of my throat though. I should have gone yesterday, but it is week three of the new meds and Tuesday is the dosage change, so I feel sleepy. I still do. Now my face is swollen a lot more, putting pressure on my eye and I can feel it in my ear. Doc said something about Cellulitus? I usually pay closer attention but between not feeling well and the med fog I'm not sure. She has me on Amoxicillin 500/Clav K 125 mg tab 3 times a day for the next 10 days. At least I don't have to cook tomorrow.
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone.

Played Sims most of the day yesterday and plan to do the same off and on today. Sad news on the Sim front, Bella Goth's asshat hubby sadly (not) drowned. Pool renovations, he dove in and forgot that there were no ladders with which to climb out. Bawhahahahahahaha! Her relationship with her daughter is flourishing now. Little Cassandra is doing very well in school and has learned her first spell, a cake spell. Life at the Goth home has vastly improved.

Sometimes it's the little moments in life that makes you wonder what the fuck? I was making a cup of herb tea and reached into the cupboard to get a saucer to cover the cup while it steeps, when it dawned on me, I'm a grownup! Well duh! At my age, you think that it would have dawned on me by now. But I honestly had just never thought about it. So naturally I called my sister and asked her if she ever had that thought. She said no, she knew she was a grown up as she was opening up her bills. She did, however, finally figure out which of her two children was the one mom had cursed her with. Most of us are familiar with this "one day you will have children and they will act just like you" from our mothers. Sis had decided that it is her 16 year old. She may be right, his personality is a lot like hers and he has her temper.

I ate way to much! I just grazed during the entire race. We came in second. Not to bad, especially since it was our first year in fantasy racing. But it just chaps my ass that that little punk buttmunch Kurt Busch won the Nextel Cup! Sometimes, I just want to reach out and slap someone!

Yesterday I went to Earthy's to help her with a project she is working on. When we finished we played a little Sims. Now, Earthy had busted my chops because my Sim Lawrence had died tragically in a BBQ incident. Well, last night, she accidentally fried one of her Sims. Some men can't cook, and just won't get out of the way when they cause a fire! LOL!
Our Coven had a class in Meditation given by Earthy's hubs (which was very good) and afterward we feasted on turkey, stuffing, gravy, biscuits and green beans in butter (OMG soooo goood!!!). H.R.M. Queen of the Universe made a Dutch apple pie for dessert (oooooohhhhh!!!!!!). Once I was able to move, I packed up some in my tupperware and brought home a care package to hubby. Now, after being on nothing but soft foods since oral surgery last Monday (stitches come out tomorrow), and as he has healed well, he was ready and able to eat this care package. He ate like a man possessed! I don't think he stopped to take a breath. All I could hear was "mummm ooo oood mmm ooodd" translation - soooo gooood!
Today we go to my sisters for the last Nextel cup race, this is our Fantasy Racing Party. The last race of the season. The only way hubby and I will win first place will be if Ricky Rudd either didn't qualify (which is unlikely) of if he crashes early on (crash Ricky, crash - don't get hurt. I just want you out of the race) and Casey Mears you need to finish in the top 5 and you need to lead the most laps.

As I lay Sleeping

Dragons stalk behind the ivy veil
Emerging from the crimson well,
Unicorns prance upon an ocean of grass,
The fey dance, specters in the wood,
Trees swaying silver leaves,
Undines play, surfing waves of blue,
Visions come unbidden, as I lay sleeping.

Despite humble and perhaps literally small beginnings, you inspire

The Gathering

Within these castle walls I see
A gathering of souls
Lost in memories of lives led
And ancient battles fought.
Unable to escape the past
They roam the castle yard
The glory of their youth it seems
Is what is being sought.
Witches gather in the court
The circle has been cast
Aid to those who've lost their way
Consumes their every thought.
Ancestors honored on this night
Guide them to their rest
Beyond the shadowy veil they go
Where loneliness is naught.

I've had the CD Eagle Cries by Joanne Shenandoah for a while now, I absolutely love it. I like all of the songs on it but my favorite, is titled One silver One Gold. It is an abbreviated form of an ancient Haudensaunee prophecy. A portion of the proceeds from the recording will benefit Native American cultural preservation.

Asshats and Buttmunch and Clusterfuck, Oh My!

What day Monday was! We had to get up at the butt-crack of dawn to get Hubby to the North Chicago VA by 0730 so that he could catch the shuttle to the Westside VA in Downtown Chicago for his 0900 appointment.
We made it there by 0725, so far, so good.
I stood out side smoking, (I don't smoke in my car, hubby doesn't smoke) when the cell phone rang. It was my brother. He is sick, having urinary probs, dribbling with a small amount of stringy blood (sister-in-law and I are ragging him to see a doc and will not let up until he does) can I pick my nephew up at O'Hare airport in the afternoon? Ok, I hate city traffic, but nephew is 15 and it is the first time he has flown alone so no prob. I tell him to call me with the details. He says he will.
I hang up and go back in the VA and sit with hubby, the shuttle is late. It doesn't leave until 0830, it take aprox. 1 - 1.5 hrs. to get to Westside from North Chicago, hubby will be late, but they are keeping him over night (oral surgery), we say goodbye, I go home.
I get home, grab the last beerbrat from the fridge, eat that while I play Sims.
Around 1030 SIL (sister-in-law) calls, have I heard from my bro? Yes, but not since about 0730. She has been calling home and getting no answer. She bet he fell asleep, which he was worried about, (he works third shift and has only had five hours of sleep since Saturday) cause he sleeps like the dead. She will call down to Virginia and call me back with the flight info.
I hop into the shower and get dressed. Then play more Sims.
At 1245 the phone rings, its SIL, he is arriving on United at 230 our time, it tell her keep calling her house until bro answers, I'm leaving now as it takes anywhere from 1-2 hrs. to get to the airport depending on traffic.
I run upstairs, put on a bra, grab my coat, phone, a check so I can put gas in the car and head to Jewel. I get to Jewel, park, get halfway to the door and realize that I don't have my wallet so I can't cash a check, shit, so back to the car. I head back home. Halfway home, my bro calls, I just got up, where am I , I tell him, he says. "I guess I better call the wife" I say that would be a good idea. I get home, run in, get my wallet, find out that I had left the coffee pot on, turn it off and head back to Jewel. About halfway to Jewel, the phone rings, it is my bro, "Where are you" I tell him "I'm getting my shoes and socks on now, I'm coming with" I ask if he has cash, he tells me he has his ATM card, good enough, he can buy gas and pay for parking. I pick him up. Off to the airport we go. It starts to rain, and every asshat in northern Illinois is on the Tollway!
Finally, we get to O'Hare, I forgot the paper with the airline written on it and can't remember if it is American or United, bro says he is sure that it is American. We go to hourly parking at terminal 3, for American airlines, found a good parking spot, easy to find and went to baggage claim, the time is now 250. No sign of my nephew anywhere, bro is getting worried, I check the monitors, no incoming flights from Norfolk! It has to be United! That is in terminal 1, at the other end of the airport!!!!!!
We find the airport transport, and take it to terminal 1, bro is getting worried at this point as we are pretty late. We finally get to baggage claim, and check the monitors, it shows that the bags are in at number 4, no nephew, almost no one, and no baggage. Bro has him paged. I am checking the monitors again and realize that we read the line for Newark, the plane from Norfolk doesn't arrive for another 30 minutes and baggage claim is at number 12!
I need a cigarette!
Finally, we get nephew safe and sound, get back on airport transit, got back to terminal 3, find the car, get back on the Tollway in time for rush-hour, among every buttmunch from northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin that ever owned a car! I get them dropped off at home, and I finally arrive at home. I go inside, throw my keys down, check the answering machine, turn on the computer, I know that hubby has probably tried calling with his room number. There are a lot of attempted calls on the machine, the phone rings, it is 530, I still have my coat on, it's hubby. "Honey, I'm at the North Chicago VA, I've been here since 230, I need a ride home, I'm starving, I haven't eaten all day", WHAT! I'm on my way! So I run back out the door and pick him up at the VA and bring him home. The poor man! I make some chicken noodle soup, strain it, give him the broth, and I eat the rest. I ask him about his day.
The Oral surgeon didn't see him until 100. While the room whas very clean, there was no irrigation, suction, or anwhere for him to spit out excess fluid. The student who did the majority of the procedure, used gauze to absorb as much as possible and hubby had to swallow the rest. They used about 4 shots to numb him up so he was awake during the procedure. The informed him that they would not be keeping him overnight as there were no beds available. He needed to go to the pharmacy to get his pain meds and mouthwash. There was over an hour wait for the prescriptions and he couldn't wait or he would miss the shuttle back so they are mailing them to him. So he came home with no meds or mouthwash. Fortunately, he had some pain meds here, and I have sage tea tat makes an excellent mouthwash. He is having very little pain or swelling. He is on soft food, but his after care sheet has nothing on it about follow up care, so I will have to call them. Hubby has to sleep with his head and chest elevated for a couple of days, so he is sleeping in the recliner.
Now, the day was not quite over, just when I thought I could finally relax, I called an spoke with my sister. She had taken her cat, Tiger to the vet, he wasn't acting right. Leukemia! They had to put him down, they are devastated! Tiger was only 7 years old, he had adopted them, 6 years ago.
I hate fuckin Mondays!!!

Lakes Region Pagans had our monthly coffee get together at Borders in Gurnee yesterday. We had a pretty good turn out, of course, part of the group were a class in comparative religious studies from Trinity University. They were alright though. They asked good questions and listened. It made me think of how I grew up, religiously speaking. Baptized Lutheran as an infant, I went to a few different Sunday\Bible schools as a child. I started reading early, I could read before I went to kindergarten and I liked to ask questions.

1 - After Cain slew Able and was banished and made to wander, where did the other people come from? (Please don't send your daughter back, she is a disruption to class)

2 - How can you repopulate the planet with just two of each animal? And all the people are related, mom says that cousins can't marry! (Your daughter is very bright, however she is a disruption in class, please don't send her back)

3 - If Mary gave birth to Jesus, and Jesus is the Son, and God is the Son, doesn't that make Mary a Goddess? (Smack, go Home! Do not send you daughter back!)

I guess I always was different from the status quo in that I couldn't swallow most of what was being told to me. I didn't find out until I was in my thirties that there was a name for what I was, I am Pagan, I am a Witch, I am Wiccan and I am not alone!

So what was your childhood religious experience and do you still follow that path or another?

I was sitting here this morning, emailing out pictures, and of course thinking about family. I am the family historian for my generation (though I haven't worked on it in awhile). Anyway, I was sending out pictures of Crazy Auntie, and it got my thinking about the differences in the two sides of my family.

Dad's side - mostly staunch German Evangelical Lutherans (Hugenot) with some English thrown in, frugal and very clean. Though I was always confident in their love for me, they (with the exception of my dad, which is a whole other story), were not very demonstrative. I have some distant cousins left on that side whom I am in contact with, and quite like.

Mom's side - Mostly Catholic, a very mixed bunch, French, Huron, Scottish, Irish and African, very touchy feely, huggy group. Like to sing and bake. This is the site that Crazy Auntie (and I say that with love and respect) comes from, she is my Grandmothers sister. At 70+ years young last year jet skied and tried out a trampoline for the first time. She looks 15 years younger than she is, and has such a wonderful spirit, that I hope I grow up to be just like her.

Today was quite productive. I did laundry, caught up on reading my favorite blogs, and played Sims. First, I would like to wish my fellow veterans, a very Happy Veterans Day! Please take a moment to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

I believe that yesterday I blogged about about two of my Sims, Victoria Darkness and Lawrence Lightbringer getting married. The couple had decided not to have children and were exceedingly happy. Alas, tragedy struck. As Victoria lay sleeping, Lawrence lost his life in a BBQ mishap. Victoria is putting up a brave front, but is devastated. She plans to move to Magic Town as soon as possible, as it is too painful to stay in the mansion.

I've actually been out an about today. I stopped by to visit with my brother this morning before he went to bed (he's a third shifter) and drop off my nephews birthday card. Then it was off to Antioch. I checked out the new Walmart, fuckin huge store. My friend K works there so I got to see her for a bit. I picked up the baby shower gift for her soon to be born grandson. I got a 4 in 1 bath station that is for newborn through 2 years, and a bedtime bath basket with baby friendly bath foam, lotion, shampoo, powder (Lavender and Chamomile scented) and a lullaby CD. Got Hubby a new 1/24 scale Jeff Gordon car, mini-bobblehead and figurine for his collection. Picked up Shrek 2 for us and for me I got The Sims Deluxe Edition and The Sims Makin Magic expansion pack. After that I went and got about an inch trimmed off my hair and stopped by Sacred Earth. I forgot to take my list with me so I ended up browsing and visiting with Adam a bit. Went and picked up a carton of butts at Cigarette Depot - Marlboro $29.99 plus tax, not bad, would have been better if I had remembered my $4.00 off coupon.
I still don't know what I am wearing to the Wedding tomorrow, I've narrowed it down to 4 outfits. I think that I will load up my new game and play for awhile.

I finally read or should I say devoured The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice. I now understand why my friend Sabrina hated the movie Queen of the Damned. I admit, I loved the music and Vincent Perez who played Marius in the movie is a major hottie. However, the screen writers, producer and director should all be slapped. In the inept attempt to combine the boks The Vampire Lestat and The Queen of the Damned, they butchered the stories horrendously! Did they even read the books? OMG, the mistakes in the film are just too numerous to mention!
I was checking out the cable guide for tonight and it got me thinking about the shows I like to watch. I really like CSI Vegas and Miami, (I'm not sure about CSI NY yet), Crossing Jordan (It reminds me of Quincy ME, is my age showing?), Dr. G Medical Examiner, I watch the forensic shows on Discovery and TLC, I love Dead Like Me on Showtime. Tonight Blue Collar Comedy and Drew Cary Green Screen. I love Extreme Makeover Home Edition (keep the Kleenex handy) and Horror movies. I like to check out independent films as well as foreign films and I just love John Waters films. I am also proud to say that I have in my collection, the WORST horror movie of all time, Plan 9 From Outer Space. It is so bad it's funny. I am so weird and I'm ok with that.

Busy morning! I went and voted, dropped film off at Walgreens and picked up a pack of smokes. Thursday I need to grocery shop and the car needs to go in for maintenance. I still have a baby shower gift to pick up and I want to work on my BOS and my Spell book. I have a beautiful piece of leather that I am using for the cover of my spell book, since I don't embroider, I need to get beads and thread so I can put the symbols that I want on it.
