I was sitting here this morning, emailing out pictures, and of course thinking about family. I am the family historian for my generation (though I haven't worked on it in awhile). Anyway, I was sending out pictures of Crazy Auntie, and it got my thinking about the differences in the two sides of my family.
Dad's side - mostly staunch German Evangelical Lutherans (Hugenot) with some English thrown in, frugal and very clean. Though I was always confident in their love for me, they (with the exception of my dad, which is a whole other story), were not very demonstrative. I have some distant cousins left on that side whom I am in contact with, and quite like.
Mom's side - Mostly Catholic, a very mixed bunch, French, Huron, Scottish, Irish and African, very touchy feely, huggy group. Like to sing and bake. This is the site that Crazy Auntie (and I say that with love and respect) comes from, she is my Grandmothers sister. At 70+ years young last year jet skied and tried out a trampoline for the first time. She looks 15 years younger than she is, and has such a wonderful spirit, that I hope I grow up to be just like her.
